The weather has been so lovely lately that I have been spending many more hours spinning up yarn outside. There seem to be more song birds around this year than last year, notably, anything more than pigeons. We've had lots of little wrens, a few startlings, and even a few hummingbirds are still around.
But the friendliest of the birds that we have around is a pair of ducks visiting from the little lake in the park across the street. They seem rather fond of both our private pool and the popcorn and crusts I throw out for the other birds. The female has even taken to coming right up to me while I spin to quack for bread crusts, though her mate seems much less inclined to beg for food so closely. Mine you, I don't keep many loaves of my fresh baked bread in the same basket as my roving, but it hasn't yet stopped her from trying. She even made off with a few stray bits of blue and green roving. At least if I ever find a nest with my little bits of colour I'll know where my darling neighbors call home!
